Inspiron 5150 Volume problem

Question

I just got a 5150 and find that the volume is too low even with all volume settings set to max. CDs\DVDs\sound files all play almost too low to hear. I've had other brand name laptops and have never had this problem. I've updated my SigmaTel drivers to the newest versions and everything but the sound is still too low. Is there anything that can remedy this? Thanks!

hey, to start with.. i'm assuming your very versitile with windows? but the first thing i have to ask is..
under Volume Control .. Options .. Playback (radio button) , all boxes are checked, if then,.. all slide bars are maxed out on the Vol. Control Main Screen.

Are your drivers : SigmaTel C-Major if so check latest version 6.14.1.3794 (i've never seen a driver cause this problem.. but ...

I've checked everything. All of the boxes are checked, all of the sliders at max and I downloaded the newest drivers from the Dell website I've done everything I can think of. One thing I did notice though is that when I run the DirectX Diagnostic Tool and test the sound it gives me a message that 'Your sound card does not support hardware buffering. Sounds will only play back from software buffers.' Was wondering if that was normal or it may be part of my problem. Thanks!

hmm, well, that sounds like its not normal, but i would have no idea of what to do with it... heres my solution, simply goto device manager and under the sound tab, uninstall everything, then reboot and let windows reinstall all driver automatically, then check levels and playback!

one more thing... try plugging in headphones and check the level there...
