Inspiron 6000 battery power problem
My Inspiron 6000 works fine when it is plugged into the wall. When the wall plug is removed, the computer will not operate on the battery alone. The battery light is flashing a short amber flash 3 or 4 times, and then a longer green flash, repeatedly.
When I double-click on the power icon, it tells me the battery is 99% charged.
The battery test gauge on the bottom of the laptop is all green lights when I press the button.
When I ran the F12 diagnostics for "my computer doesn't run on battery", both of the tests that I can run were fine...of course the one where they tell you to disconnect the charger didn't run since the computer goes off when I disconnect the charger (duh..."my computer doesn't run on battery", what do they expect to have happen when you disconnect the charger?).
So all indications seem to be that the battery is good, the charger is good, but the battery lights are flashing, and the computer won't run on the battery.
Any ideas what's wrong with the laptop? Or any suggestions of further diagnostics that I can do?

What I'm thinking is possibly bad system board, since the battery seems okay, but the system won't run on the battery. On the other hand, this is based on the battery check gauge on the bottom of the computer, and I don't know how reliable that is.
Are there any thoughts about this, anyone's experiences to share, any expertise about what additional diagnostics would be useful? I'm currently running the "extended diagnostics", but given what I've seen so far am not expecting startling results.

Make sure the battery contacts are clean and not bent - if they are, and the battery is making good contact, it's very likely the system board is faulty.

Okay, here's the solution that worked for me for anyone else that's having this problem:
- Shutdown the computer and pull the charger cord out of the computer.
- Remove the battery, you will keep it out for about 1/2 an hour.
- Plug in the wall cord again and reboot the computer and use it for a while (5 minutes or so) so that it gets that there is no battery plugged in.
- Shut it down again and pull the power cord again.
- After about 30 minutes, put the battery back in carefully.
- Plug in the charger again, and the battery light should not be blinking.
- Boot the computer, and it should come up normally, no blinking battery light.
- After the computer is up, pull the charger again and the computer should operate fine on the battery.
That's about all I did, you can probably eliminate a lot of these steps, the main thing is to take the battery out for about 30 minutes or more. Everything is cool again, no blinking lights, and the laptop is operating fine on the battery. Weird, but true.
