Inspiron 6000 power problems

Question

First I would like to say I bought my I6000 off of ebay as refurbished. When I got it I was so excited about getting it I forgot to try it without the ac cord. When the ac cord is plugged in it works fine so I took it to college and tried it on the battery it was at 34% and gradually drained to nothing and wouldn't charge back. Ok so I thought maybe the battery is bad so I spend like over $100 on one of the new 9cell batteries or whatever the better battery was. It was also at 34% and drained to nothing and wouldn't charge back so I don't know what to do. Upon further reading the ebay add the warranty had expired so I can't send it to dell to get fixed. I really have no Idea what is wrong any suggestions. Basically it works fine when its plugged in but it won't charge the battery help would be appreciated.

Unfortunately, you probably figured out why they were selling it. If the battery isn't flashing an error pattern, the most likely cause of the problem is a faulty system board, which is more like a $500 part than a $100 battery.

I have found sites that sell brand new mother boards for about $200-$250. How hard would it be to just replace the motherboard and plug the old wireless card and ram and harddrive into the new motherboard?

Yeah at ebay here's a link http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?cgiurl=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2Fws%2F&fkr=1&from=R8&satitle=dell+inspiron+6000+motherboard&category0=   Apparently they're the 6000d series boards as well so its not stuck with an integrated graphics media accelerator junk they usually give you for the video card. Just remember to factor in the cost of a Dell ATI X300 card - it's not an off-the-shelf card you can buy just anywhere.

Any recourse with the EBay seller? Sounds like your refurbhished 6000 was defective upon delivery. I would be bit leary of investing a lot of money without knowing for sure what all is wrong.

Lets see I can buy a new Dell inspiron 6000d motherboard off of ebay for around $160-$200 its guarenteed to not be DOA or I get my money back, and I can buy a new radeon x300 128 MB video card for around $60 on ebay or $100 at FRY's Electronics. I wanted to upgrade the video card anyway because I wanted to be able to play games on my computer, and at the time my father bought the Laptop we didn't know you couldn't upgrade the video card. I can get memory for it at www.4allmemory.com But do any of ya'll suggest where I could buy a better processor than the celeron 350 that came with the laptop? I want to get at least a pentium M 725 or 740.
