Inspiron 6000 Restore CD

Question

Hello,

I just got my Inspiron 6000(which I really love :) ) and I realized it didn't come with Restore CDs. I know DELL switched over to that Restore Partition instead of shipping CDs, but I would feel quite a bit safer if I had CDs that I could keep elsewhere incase of an emergency. I wish to install Linux alongside Windows and I would just feel better knowing I can restore everything incase something goes wrong, better safe than sorry.

Is there anyway I can download Restore CDs, or make them, or have a set shipped to me?

I only got the WXGA LCD Panel. I didn't really think about it until after I read up on laptop screens. My computer is technically for college, but I have tested games on it and movies and so far I think it looks great even without the better screen.

I noticed the CD offered at time of sale, so you can probably order it after purchase.

I plan to get the backup CD and was looking getting the 6000--what type of display did you go with? I've been reading the pros and cons on here.:smileyhappy:

Thanks for the opinion.  I was going to upgrade, but think the one you have will actually do better for what I want to use it for.

I found that, too, and sounds like that would work.   I would never rely on them being on the hard drive as I have reformatted 4 times and finally ended up with the hard drive replaced twice!  And that was under warranty, but desktop. Message Edited by spddemun on 07-26-2005 02:16 AM

Going back to my initial question. I have found where they have all the device drivers available for download. If I download these and burn them to a CD and then have the single Windows CD it let me burn, between the two of them I should be able to restore my computer to pretty much the same state as it was when I got it without having to rely on the Restore Partition, right?

There are no Restore CDs. You can order a Windows CD with the computer, or call and get one afterwards. You then download drivers. Or you can use the Symantec PC Restore partition, although Linux install will disable it.

Dell has never shipped Restore CDs, they don't exist for a Dell.
