Inspiron 6400- Mute Button

I have an Inspiron 6400 (Dell Media Direct buttons) including the 5 buttons located on the outside that allow you to turn the sound up/down/ or even mute it  The problem I am having is that sometimes i'll press the mute button and it will not turn my pc on mute..it will flash mute and flash right back off. and if i hold it down it kind of drags the music.  Any suggestions on how to fix this?  and also if i use the function key and mute (using keyboard) the problem remains.

Try uninstalling the Quickset, and reinstalling it back... I had that problem but only when I used iTunes.

How do I do this exactly?  I'm sorry, I'm new to all this and wanted to make sure I do it right.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Are you using Vista or XP???
Well...

Vista:
START > type on the search box Programs and Features, press ENTER. Look for Dell QuickSet click on it and then click on uninstall.

Reinstall Quickset downloading here

XP
Go to Control Panel, go to Add Remove Software, look for the Dell Quick Set and uninstall it.
Reisntall QuickSet downloading here < ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>

It only happens when I use iTunes aswell. Although the problem stil is present when I quit iTunes. Also I have tried uninstalling Quickset and reinstalling it to no avail. I have also tried not reinstalling and the problem still persists. Also when I have quickset installed, the little picture showing the volume level is messed up. I'll press increase or decrease and the bar won't move but when I press it a second time it movies but the volume is twice as loud or twice as low.

This has nothing to do with the mute button, Mine works fine.
I need to know how to turn off any emlutation software that my TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L632D came with... I'm getting protection errors while trying to run battlefield, EA told me to contact my drive's manufacturer, to find out how to disable such programs, thus why I'm posting, if anyone can help, I'd really be thankful...

Have you tried upgrading to the latest firmware?  It new as of 02/2007: TSST TS-L632D

<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed / replaced from this post by Dell> What emulation software are you refering to?  Also if you happen to have the exact error the game is giving you it may be helpful.
