Inspiron 6400 POST codes
My Inspiron 6400 froze whilst on line and now refuses to boot.
The num lock is on constantly but the Cap lock and scroll lock lights flash.
Can anyone tell me what this indicates please?

Hi 747skipper,
Welcome to the Community. Based upon the diagnostic indicators it means that the RAM is not detected. Use the below link to reseat your memory.

Thank you Royan, just shows you do have to be logical with computers:emotion-3:
Turns out the computer doesn't like one of the two sodimms any more.
With that chip in either slot I get the error, but the other one works fine.
Can I ask a quick supplementary?
The good SODIMM Is 512Mb what is the max. memory for this model and do the do modules have to be the same size?

Hi,
The Inspiron 6400 system supports dual-channel DDR2 SDRAM with speeds of 533 and 667 Mhz. The maximum memory supported by this system is 2 GB, so each slot will hold 1 GB of RAM. Memory modules must be installed as a perfectly matched pair to take advantage of the dual-channel memory bus. If not a matched pair, the system's memory bus operates in a single-channel configuration.

You can put 4GB in your 6400/E1505 but it will only see 3.25 available for use even with a 64 bit operating system.
