Inspiron 8600 ??????

Does Dell have plans for a 17inch diagonal laptop like the apple but with atleast 1920 x 1200 resolution similar to the 8500 WUXGA 1920x1200?

Apple screwed up on resolution on the 17 Inch with 1440x900. Apple also screwed up on the keyboard design.  They could have easily put a wide desktop type keyboard. they did good with Firewire800 and Firewire standard.

Do you think we will move on from 1.6:1 aspect ratio resolutions (e.g. 1440x900, 1920x1200) to widescreen (1.85:1) and anamorphic widescreen (2.35:1) ?  Would love to have a laptop with 2820x1200 resolution (2.35:1 aspect ratio)

Your guess would be as good as mine.

Although this new notebook would more than likely be the I9100 as evidenced by the splash screen of the latest Dell Diagnostic executable.

Everywhere I go, people start drooling over my bro's 17 inch powerbook.  If Dell would put out a 17 incher with Centrino, maybe all this hype and coverage about Mac would taper off.  There really is a serious consumer market for big screen desktop replacements.  Dells got the UXGA res. right, so why not the screen and chip.

BTW...The powerbook is indeed awesome...and OS X is pretty appealing (surprisingly, couldn't stand OS 9).

But a maxed out Powerbook costs thousands more than an Inspiron. A trade off between value and an LCD, I suppose.

LCD must have excellent viewing angles, brightness and contrast, not just another standard dingy notebook LCD.

Sony is working on a system equal to size of two DVD stacked cases for the US market, 7.1 " XGA TFT with 1024x768 similar to

http://www.dynamism.com/u101/gallery.shtml, only problem is they are using a Celeron 0.4 GHz processor. What are you thinking Sony ? trade-ins for 486?

Also, Sony apparently abandoned a prototype 17 inch with 1640 x 1025 (?? shouldn't this be 1024 ??)

Sony *may* come up with better resolution (hope 1920 x 1200) to up the ante from Apple and Toshiba who have 17 inchers at 1,400 pixels wide by 900

Hope Dell builds a 17 inch with 1920 x 1200 !! SOON !!

Come on Dell !!!! Whatchuwaitinfor?

why do you guys always mention Nvidia's Geforce FX 5200/5600 Go ? ATI's mobility Radeon 9600 is much better (almost twice as good). I wouldn't buy a notebook without it. Please update your list !
