Inspiron bad experiences
Just want to warn people about the Inspiron line of computers. In 2005, I purchased a Inspiron 5160, had lots of problems. It was replaced with a 9300 that did good for about one year. Since then, I have had 4 system replacements with the last being a Inspiron 1520. I had it for about a month and now it will not even come on. No lights, not anything. The processor has already been replaced in it and Dell is wanting to replace the MB. The system is still under a 3 year hardware inhouse warranty. I have tried and tried to work out something with Dell but to nothing.
Just be warned, these systems in my experience are problems. I have had in the exchanges, a E1705, an E1505 as well and ALL had issues from the beginning.

I know here we have almost exclusively Dell and Apple laptops, yet I've seen more issues with an HP-though that's probably just a coincidence/bad luck.

Good point! That would explain why all the big brands clump together :)
