Inspiron e1505 Blinking battery light
Looking for experiences. I have an Inspiron e1505, just over 2 years old, no extended warranty. The battery indicator flashes orange then green. The online manual indicates that it may need a new battery. However, people having a similar problem with Dell Precisions say that it is the motherboard. Some non-Dell online posts also indicate that it may be the motherboard. It seems a shame to have to have the motherboard repaired after only 2 years - I would have thought this would have lasted through school (hard to afford a new pc at this time)
I'd like to know
- Is there a way to verify it is the motherboard?
- How do you get the motherboard replaced, and how much will it cost approximately?
- Sometimes companies fix problems like these even out of warrante (Canon fixed a problem with my 3+ year old digital camera that was due to a supplier problem). Is anyone aware of Dell doing something like this?

Unless you have other symptoms - such as a failure to charge or an error message relating to an AC adapter that isn't recognized, it's more likely the battery is near the end of its life. Lithium ion batteries run about 300-500 charge cycles or 18-24 months before they need to be replaced, so it wouldn't be unusual.
If it is the mainboard, the part will run about $350 plus labor to replace.
