Inspiron memory up grade

Question

Hello,

I have an Inspiron 8200 laptop. Recently I tried to add more memory. I opened the memory compartment and realized that the memory chip I bought would not fit in the memory plug -in slot.

The connector inside the compartment looks entirely different than the one shown in the manual that came with the computer.

Does Dell make two different memory connectors for the 8200?

What memory should I get if so?

Was it definitely laptop RAM (i.e. SODIMM) you bought, because it *should* fit if it is?

Anyway... the best advice we can give you, is to use either Crucial's or Corsair's respective memory advisor/configurator, rather than ordering RAM off the Dell website.

There are a number of reasons for this:

1. Both Crucial and Corsair, guarantee the RAM they subsequently recommend, will be compatible with your laptop.

2. Thy're both highly respected RAM manufacturer's, so you know you're getting quality, branded modules.

3. Their RAM carries a lifetime warranty, and by buying it direct from them, you can send it back to them as well.

4. I'd wager it''ll cost you less as well, than the equivalent amount of RAM direct from Dell :emotion-55:

There are 2 memory slots for the 8200. One is mini and the other is regular size--and more difficult to get at. Crucial link is here. Your manual should show you how to install. The memory you have might be the right one.  Look under Replacing and Installing Parts. Here's the Service Manual
