Inspiron N5110 Display problem
Hi,
I purchased a Dell Inspiron N5110 i7 2670 laptop few months back. It has recently developed a strange fault with the display where it shows interference/noise on the screen.
I connected the laptop to an external LCD screen and it works fine. I also monitored the temperatures which were OK (lower than 50C).
Because it is a difficult issue to describe in detail I have uploaded a video of my test. http://www.craftboom.co.uk/screen.mp4
Any ideas?
Regards,
Hamid

Hi Hamid,
If the display on the external monitor is fine, the issue might be with the LCD or the drivers.
Please follow the below troubleshooting steps to isolate the issue :
Also, check if the noise dissapear when you connect the laptop to the etxernal monitor.
Awaiting your response!

Hi Rajesh,
Thank you for the prompt response.
The noise is present on the BIOS screen, not just within windows. The issue disappears on an external monitor.
The diagnostics report no fault found even though the noise is present.
I added my video to youtube:

Hamid

Hi Youssef92,
Please share the exact system model.
If i understand your issue correctly, you are getting noise from the screen. Is that correct? Did you try the steps as shared by Dell-Rajesh R? if yes, please share the findings. If no, then please try the steps. Perform LCD BIST, check in BIOS and connect an external monitor and share the findings.

Hey there,
My laptop is a dell N5110 I5, and yes i did try all that he's said and the problem persists, yes my problem is a "noisy" display, there are very thin horizontal and vertical lines of many different colors vibrating on the display, much more pronounced when the screen is showing something black than when it' showing something white.

Hi Youssef92,
Do you see the same lines in BIOS and LCD BIST test? What happens when you connect an external monitor? Do you still see the lines on the external display?
Please share the findings; will take it further.

Hi Youssef,
This turned out to be a problem with the Motherboard . A dell engineer first replaced the Screen and heatsink which did not resolve the problem. Finally, they replaced the motherboard and the problem disappeared.
Try the following:-
- Could be an issue with software on your laptop (check if noise is still there in bios/outside windows to rule out driver/software problem)
- Connect a monitor to the VGA port and see if there is noise.
- Install software to monitor the temperature of the laptop to ensure it is not overheating

Hamid

Hi,
I have the same Laptop "INSPIRON N5110" and the monitor has a vertical yellow line. I tried the laptop with TV and the line did not appear. The line is persistent inside and outside windows even when you just turn the laptop on.
I saw a video on YouTube explaining that if you twist the monitor the line would disappear and that you should disassemble the monitor but this line is consistently there even if you try to twist the monitor a bit.
The line appeared after a few months after purchase but the warranty is now expired.
Any help is appreciated.

Hi,
I've been experiencing this issue as well. The screen flickers with vertical lines constantly on the laptop, but is not present on an external monitor. It is also present at start up on the laptop's screen during boot.
The Dell n5110 is on a Windows 7 64 bit system, with a 2.4 GHz Intel Core processor.
Please let me know how to remedy this situation, whether I need to install a driver, change the cable from the LCD to motherboard, or what.
Thank you in advance,
Chris

Hi,
Can Rajesh, Appu, or someone else from Dell Technical support look into this issue for me? I would like it to be taken care of ASAP.
