Issues with Intel Pro Set Software with XPS GEN 2 *HELP*

Question

Ok, I was uninstalling the PRO SET software because I was going to start using the ZERO Configuration for my laptop.  When everything started to go wacky on me, I tried installing the PRO SET again and it won't allow me to install it. Anyone know what is going on? I will be more specific as questions is asked here. On the other hand, I have tried installing and reinstalling and uninstalling to no avail. I can't get the little fan icon to come on at the systray that the pro set provides.   Initially after uinstalling the pro set, when I restarted, the icon did disappear as it made it seem like it was uninstalled. However, when I started using the zero configuration, it wasn't picking up the wireless signal but somewhere in the back end, the proset was 'ghostly' controlling it. After deleting the intel folder in the c:/program files path and cleared out anything regarding intel wireless/pro set in the registry, the zero configuration finally worked normally. On the other hand, I can't install the pro set now giving me errors.   Any ideas?

uninstalling the proset software will also uninstall the wireless card drivers!

if you want to use WZC to manage your wireless and do away with proset then you will have to decompress the dell driver file using something like winzip and install only the relevent drivers for your wireless card via device manager.

Here is the situation to clarify more.   'uninstalling the proset software will also uninstall the wireless card drivers'   For me, this did not happen. When I ran the uninstallation files using the ' add and remove programs' it went through the uninstallation only to yield a result of all things to be uninstalled ' FAILING'. At the end of the uninstallation procedure it usually gives a result as to what it uninstalled in the PRO SET software. However, all of it failed.   What it did do was remove the uninstallation link from the add and remove programs. It made it seem like it uninstallled but based on the summary report, it failed. For the time being, I do have my wireless working. That is only after I savagely went into the registry to remove anything to do with intel pro set and deleting the entire folder from C:/intel/wireless   Now, if I want to reinstall the pro set, it doesn't work. It's saying I'm missing a folder bin in the C:/intel/wireless folder and the installation quits out. I even went as far as creating a folder bin and running the installation again. It would go through the process ending with a successful install. However, with no pro set software to be found. Not even the little icon on the systray.   Now what?

First of all, you can use the Zero Config without uninstalling the PROset suite. Why not do a system restore to a point prior to the uninstallation, then updgrade to the latest driver in support download site (marked 'Critical' and then switch to the Microsoft Zero Wireless Config?

Unfortunately, I have done tons of stuff from the time I did this. Many things have changed and restoring from that point may cause more issues. On the other hand, I have tried it again and it seems to be able to install correctly fine, however, when I check the folders of where it should have installed, it is EMPTY.

When I uninstall it again from the add and remove, it fails once again and it is still installed.
