Hi susankarch,

Thank you for the update. I sincerely apologize for the technical troubles you have experienced with your computer.

Let me know the system model so that I can help you better.

Check the status of touch pad in Safe mode (restart the computer and tap F8 on Dell logo and select Safe mode at windows advanced boot options).

If the touchpad behavior is same in safe mode, try uninstalling and reinstalling the touchpad Driver:

Follow below steps to Uninstall and reinstall the drivers:

  • Click “Start”, type “Device Manager” and press enter.
  • In the “Device Manager” window, open the "Mice and Other Pointing Devices" selection.
  • Under “"Mice and Other Pointing Devices", right click the Synaptic touchpad, and click “Uninstall”.
  • Check the box “Delete driver software for this device”, click ok and follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall.
  • Restart the computer.
  • Visit the following website: www.support.dell.com
  • Enter the Service tag of the computer in the box provided and click “Submit”.
  • In the next page, click drop down arrow to select the Operating System which is installed in the computer.
  • Under category Input, click on the touchpad drivers and click “Download File” and save the file on desktop.
  • Double click the file and follow the onscreen instructions to install touchpad drivers.
  • Restart the computer.

Awaiting your response!

Hi susankarch,

I recommend updating touchpad drivers. Follow below steps to update the touchpad driver:

http://dell.to/10kxCIu

Also try installing Touch freeze .This Utility disables touchpad automatically while you are typing text.

Install the touch freeze drivers from the below link:

From the above link, click on Downloads sections, save the file and run the file.

Awaiting your response!

I tried both of your recommendations, and neither one is fixing my issue.  I am thinking a bat would work :)

Hi susankarch,

Does the touchpad cursor exhibit same behavior in Safe mode with networking?

Also, update BIOS from the below link:

http://dell.to/16tW9yx

  • During BIOS update verify that the computer is connected to an AC Adapter.
  • Disconnect any third party peripherals connected to the computer before performing BIOS update.
  • Do not turn off the computer during the BIOS update.
  • Do not restart the computer during the BIOS update.

Note: Plug your computer to a good, working UPS before you update the BIOS. If you experience a loss of AC power or a significant voltage sag/spike during the BIOS flash, you will either have to buy a new BIOS chip or buy a new motherboard.

Kindly private message me the service tag. I will review your account and take the case forward.

Click on my User name in blue and Click start conversation.

Awaiting your response!
