Keyboard Problem with Inspiron 6000

I have had to reinstallwindows xp on my dell inspiron 6000 but I have a strange problem when using the keyboard
 
When I press certain keys a number will also appear - example if i press the f key i get f4, other keys are also doing this
a=a1
s=s2
d=d3
f=f4
j=j7
k=k8
l=l9
;=;0
 
i've tried searching the forums & newsgroups but can't find any answers - any help would really be appreciated.

Did you reinstall the chipset and notebook system software first before all other drivers? Both are available for download at your support page under Downloads and Drivers. Check the F lock & Numlock settings, too.

Yes I have installed the system software first & then the chipset driver but I still cannot get the keyboard to work properly.

Num lock is off & the FN lock is not on.

I'm not sure what else to try?
