Keyboard sleep button only hibernates even after changing the setting
I have a Dell XPS 1645 laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium.
Close to when I first got the laptop, I changed it so that the sleep button (pressed using [Fn-F1]) would cause the system to hibernate instead of sleep when pressed (by going to Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options\System Settings and changing "When I press the sleep button:", and then pressing "save"). Now I want to change it back to sleep, but after I change it it still hibernates every time.
I have tried going to every power plan I have and changing "Sleep button action" under "Power buttons and lid" to "sleep" but it still causes the same problem. Restarting the computer after making the change doesn't seem to help either. Sleep and hibernate have been working very normally for me in every other way I activate them except for this sleep button problem (the laptop sleeps fine when I close the lid or choose it under the Start Menu, for example).
I have also tried the "improve power usage" troubleshooter. which was recommended by Microsoft, but the problem wasn't fixed. Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks.

See this LINK to see how to turn hibernation off. The F1 key is for hibernation, not sleep; at least with my M1530 even when set to sleep. With hibernation off, the Fn-F1 key combination will do nothing. You can also set the power button to be the sleep key. Supposedly, the Dell Quick-set program (Mobility Center for Win 7) will allow setting the key to the sleep function. Press the Win and "x" keys (or go to the Control Panel" and you will get to the Mobility Center. The Display selection shows "Hot Keys", but nothing happens when you double click Hot Keys. You should search the web for this, might find an answer.

I tried looking in the Mobility Center/Dell Quickset. Unfortunately, for my laptop there is no option for "Hot Keys" or sleeping/hibernation.
I don't really want to disable hibernation. Hibernation and sleep both work perfectly fine for me- the only problem is that the sleep button isn't doing what I configured it to do. I like using the power button to turn off the computer.
Something else I should mention is that on my laptop (Studio XPS 1645) I've noticed that pressing [Fn-Esc] causes the program to hibernate. Actually, this is the whole reason I want to change the sleep button: if I can make the computer hibernate using [Fn-Esc], it isn't really necessary to make [Fn-F1], the sleep button, a hibernate button also. Does anyone know of a way to change [Fn-Esc] to sleep or know anything about that key combination? That would work for me almost as well.

Problem solved: they say that the hardest bug to debug is the one that doesn't exist (i.e. the "bug" that is actually a feature). Same thing is true for this problem I guess.
My laptop keyboard has a little moon over the [F1] key, so naturally I assumed [Fn-F1] to be the sleep key, like on every other system where I've seen that symbol. However, I discovered a few months ago that on my system, pressing [Fn-Esc] caused the computer to hibernate (and the sleep key had been configured to hibernate at that point in time). Since I was pretty sure that [Fn-F1] was the sleep key, I assumed that [Fn-Esc] was a key combination that Dell had set to always cause hibernation.
Today, I pressed [Fn-Esc], and when my computer slept instead of hibernating, I discovered that I actually had it backwards: [Fn-F1] is the permanent hibernate key, and [Fn-Esc] is the sleep key. Why Dell did this I don't know, especially since as far as I know, none of my documentation indicates the existence of a sleep key or that the sleep key was [Fn-Esc]. But anyway, my problem is solved: changing the action of the "sleep button" in Control Panel changes [Fn-Esc] to whatever I choose.
