Laptop as TV

Hi,
Forgive the errors, this is a first.
Anyway,I have an Inspiron 8200 p-4 chip running at 1.2GHz with 256MB Ram. Xp Home for an operating system. What I'd like to do is find a way to connect sat service to the laptop so as to utilize it as a TV. I also want to be able to use it as a GPS receiver for road routes. Anybody know what I need for extra equiptment to make this happen? This is for use in a motor home.

What you need to look for is an External Tv-Tuner (USB2.0 or Firewire iEEE1394) which will enable the tv signal to show on the laptop screen. I know ATI and Viewsonic make god models and have received good comments about Hauppauge.

I've seen PCMCIA cards with GPS functionalities, and there are USB GPS also, with a detachable antenna.

I think this is what you need to look for. Maybe someone can give you better information on models/makes.

Hoping this helps,

Rick

Also you can hook up a capturing device that way you can copy to harddrive and burn and also veiw tv from your laptop. I have a adaptec and it comes with win video software it does a lot you can also hook up your camcorder and edit and burn home movies to dvd or cd and it even comes with a remote it cost about $100.00 pinacle is another good one. Im happy with the adaptec capturing device it performs verry well. I recomed it you will like it.
