Laptop is not responding!

HiGuys,

I have a

Dell Studio 17 Laptop
Intel Core i7 720QM 1.6GHz (2.8 GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache)
4GB, DDR3, 1066MHz, 2 DIMM
ATI MOBILITY RADEON HD 4650 1GB
500G 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English

When I start my PC in regular mode all I get is the blue 'not reposnding' cirlce (please see screenshot) and I can do nothing at all. All I can do is access task manager to turn off the PC. If I try and click on anything in task manager, the blue circle appears.

I have ran diagnostics and all passed. I have done a system restore and that didn't work and I ran a system repair at start up, but that made no difference. I have tried to download system diagnostics from Dell, but it downloads but won't run when I click to install, it just says dell installer is not responding.

I have ran the anti virus and various malware checks etc.

Safe mode works most of the time, but even that has frozen a few times.

any ideas anyone?

warm regards K

Hi bardounias,

I appreciate you tried few steps on your own, I would suggest you to do a PC restore in the system (Factory settings)

Note: This process will erase all the data saved in the computer.

This will rule out if there is any issue related to operating system.

Let me know about the progress.

Ok,

I did as suggested and now I have this screen. I have restarted the laptop and still get the same screen.

If you have not yet done so, boot to the Dell diagnostics and run an extended (NOT just quick) hard drive diagnostic.  F12 at powerup.

Hi,

the result from the diagnostics, which took several hours to complete. Once restarted, all I get is the black screen with the error  (Windows could not complete installation)

Hi, my friend was helping me and posting this information for me, but now I have joined the community.

I did as suggested above and ran the diagnostics. This is the screen I got at the end:

When I rebooted, all I have is the same black screen with the error as in the image a few posts above.

Hi

enter to the safe mode and tell us if the problem persist or not

also  try system restore to last valid configuration in safe mode

Thanks for the reply. All I can get now is the above black screen with  'Windows cannot complete installation' so I can't get to safe mode or do a restore.

I already tried system restore before I ran the final Dell diagnostics as suggested by ejn63. Since I ran the Dell diagnostics, I can get nothing at all, not even safe mode.

One last bump and a plead for help before I go and buy a new PC.

I sent DELL-Senthil S a private message with my service tag as requested on May 4th, but never heard anything back.

Any help would really be appreciated. I don't want to throw this laptop away if it just needs a new hard drive or something simple, but I am really getting behind on work now, so I need to do something today or tomorrow.

Please help. Thanks very much.

MINE DID THE EXACT SAME THING, DELL DID NOT REPAIR IT ALTHOUGH THEY TOLD ME THEY HAD, I WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AT THE TIME, AND THEY WANTED ME TO EXTEND MY WARRANTY WITH THEM, I REFUSED, AND NOW I'M STUCK WITH MY LAPTOP LOOKING LIKE THIS, I WOULD NEVER RECCOMMEND ANYONE PURCHASING FROM DELL, THEIR COMPANY IS A HOT MESS..............................
