Laptop start up issues.

When I last used my laptop, I just close the lid and put it away as I usually do. Expecting that it went into sleep mode, I press the power button to "wake up" the computer. My power light is on, but there is no video or image on the screen. Just a blank black screen. No sound. I have tried removing the battery and resetting it that way, but it does nothing. I have also adjusted the brightness, but the screen stays black. The computer does not boot up or shut down, but the power light stays on unless the battery is removed. Nothing else is functioning. I am completely clueless and looking for solutions.  Other info: My warranty is expired. My charger is working. The computer is less than 2 years old. Any suggestions?

Hi,

Have you tried on an external monitor??

What is the system model?

Do you see Dell logo at the beginning of startup??

Try reseating the memories.

Regards

I will try an external monitor & update info on if that works or not. I believe my system model is an inspiron 15 3543. There is nothing on the screen at all upon trying to start up. When the battery is in the computer the power light is on but it will not turn off when I press the power button. Last I used it there was a low battery so I plugged it in & it wanted to restart for updates but I clicked "later". The system was working fine during my last use of it.

" Firstly we would like to perform the LCD test to check if its a problem with the LCD and also run a complete Diagnostics on the system ".

:emotion-2:

Did you get the chance to run the LCD test as Dell Robin suggested ?  If you haven't, try the steps below. You can get further assistant about the LCD in the link.

EDIT:

To run the Built-In Self-Test perform the following:

Method 1

  1. Turn the computer off.
  2. Press and hold the D key while pressing the power button. This will start the Laptop LCD BIST.
  3. The screen will display multiple flashing colors. Look for lines, distortion, or any other video issues you have observed.
  4. The laptop will restart when the test is finished.

Method 2

  1. Turn the computer off.
  2. Press and hold the Fn key and power on your laptop while holding down the Fn key. This will start the Dell Pre-Boot System Assessment.
  3. Your computer will now run a series of tests.
  4. When your computer displays a series of horizontal and vertical color bars, it will prompt you with a pop-up message "Do you see the color bars? Yes / No
  5. Press the N key to enter the Laptop LCD BIST. Note: If you do not respond for 30 seconds, the diagnostics will automatically assume your response as a 'No' and proceed to the Laptop LCD Built-In Self Test.
  6. The screen will display multiple flashing colors. Look for lines, distortion, or any other video issues you have observed.
  7. The laptop will restart when the test is finished

I will try method 1. Method 2 did not work however, when I previously tried it. Since the system does not seem to boot up (no fan going, no sound, no display) or shut down without taking the battery out (power light does not turn off), I was unable to go past step 3. Due to the start up/ powering off issues, I am unable to run several of the diagnostics tests suggested, and the ones I was able to perform do not work.

Method #1 did not work either. The computer is unresponsive to all tests i've tried.

I did watch the tutorial, but I was unable to follow it. My computer only has 1 RAM. So I don't have another to make a switch with.
