Laptop won't boot - C000000E
I just received a Inspiron 15 R N5110 from the Dell outlet (scratch and dent - not taht I can spot them).
I used Partition Manager 12 (Free) to reduce the OS partition to 150GB - this required a reboot, all seemed fine. I created a new extended partition, and then created 3 logical disks. Again all seemed fine. I set windows to put the page file on a disk dedicated for it. All this seemed to work, but I got the disk sizes slightly incorrect, so I used Partition Manager to tweak them - no reboot required, all seemed fine. Then on the next reboot, the system refused to boot, with the following message:
" Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. Insert your Windows installation disk and restrat your computer.
2. Choose your language settings,then click "Mext".
3. Click "Repair your computer".
If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer fo assistance.
Status: 0xc000000e
Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible."
Obviously, I don't have the Windows disk as these are not normally supplied.
I am assumming that somewhere in amongst this something got corrupted (self inflicted disasters are the worst).
I do not seem able to access the recovery partition utility - neither F8 or Ctry-F11 seem to do anything during boot. I can use F12 to get to the diagnostic utility. This did not find any errors, I am now letting it run the longer memory test.
I can boot from the recovery DVDs I created when I received the system - this does work and offers me the restore option but is this a sensible thing to try, or do I need a lower level restore?
Or should I try and get a system disk, and actually do the restore as it suggests?
Any other suggestions gratefully received.

Hi Basa,
You can certainly perform the PC restore using the recovery DVDs; this would be the best option at this time. You can follow these steps to perform the restore:
Note: PC restore will lead to data (pictures, documents, programs, music) loss. Please perform a data backup prior to this step. Please disconnect any external peripherals as well.

Mant thanks - I was able to restore the factory settings using the disc I had produced. It did produce an extra empty drive called Alchemy, but I guess yhat is part of the process. I was able to remove this drive and set up an extended parrtition with 3 drives on it, as originally planned. Luckily I did not have much on it, having only had it a day.
Can you confirm with Windows 7 is it OK to put the page file on a dedicated disk (not C) - I have done this with every other version of Windows? Also, I assume it is OK to rename the C drive from "OS"

Yes, you can certainly use any USB flash drive to put the page file with Ready Boost. Refer to the screenshots
Select the USB drive>> Right-click and select Properties. Select 'ReadyBoost' tag in the properties dialog and select 'Dedicate this device to ReadyBoost'. Click Apply.
Yes, you can rename the C drive from 'OS' to anything of your choice such as Books (C:). However, you will not be able to change the drive letter; as (C:) is assigned by Windows. You can change the drive letters for other partitions; for e.g. (D:) to (F:)
