Latency problem in Studio XPS 1640
Hi
I was following the thread "Studio 1737 DPC Latency" because I have latency problems when I connect my Line6 POD Studio UX2 external audio device.
I wrote to "DELL-Bill B" and told me to open a new therad because that one is related to studio 1737 and to post screen shots of the DPC Checker.
I have a Studio XPS 1640 with 6gb of ram, Intel Core Duo CPU P7350 @ 2.00GHz, a WD 7200 RPM Hard Disk, Windows Vista 64bits ... as you can see is quite powerful.
Here are some screenshots of the DPC Checker in different situations. (ALWAYS WITH THE LINE6 DEVICE DISCONECTED)
Here is the check some minutes before starting windows and doing nothing.
Here is with all the vista visual efects off and playing the media player.
And here is with visual effects off and doing nothing
If I plug the Line6 devices and play guitar, the drops and pops are intolerable ...
I bought this notebook to play and record music. I hope this is not a mistake...
With best regards
Matías

Hello, I decided to check my latency too. I found I had the same problem. I used Glary Utilities' Process Manager and found that the FastAcess was using a lot of CPU time. When I disabled it it helped a lot. It didn't solve it entirely but dropped the latency noticeably. I will keep working on it because I have seen better results on a 1640 on Youtube.

I have having this problem too! It is SOOOOOOO annoying. I am using the Studio XPS 1640 with Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, a 2.93GHz Intel Centrino processor, 4 GB 1066MHz RAM, 1GB graphics card, and a 500GB 7,200 RPM hard drive. My processor randomly goes up to 100% usage and stays there until I restart my computer. Even when I am doing NOTHING on it. I looked through the task manager and noticed that Fast Access was eating up a TON of my processor and that Dell Dock uses a TON as well. There also some other programs causing this too. I have formatted my hard drive countless times, replaced the processor, hard drive, and ALL of the ports (except the ones integrated into the motherboard), and run virus scans with 3 different virus softwares including Windows Defender and nothing has worked so far. The only parts I haven't replaced are the motherboard and the graphics card. (These parts are integrated with each other.) I am going to call Dell ONE LAST TIME! If this last attempt still doesn't work, I am going to send this piece of junk back to Dell (after I erase it) and I expect a FULL refund and nothing less. I wish I would have bought a MacBook Pro. All of my fellow technicians say to get a MacBook Pro and every band member that I have spoken to uses a MacBook Pro and says to get one.
