Latitude C600:Processor Speed On XP
Hi there, I am new user on this forum, because I just got this incredible C600, even it's used one.
The spec is P3-700/850 MHZ, 20 GB HDD, Memory 128MB and CDROM :smileyvery-happy:
Currently I using XP Profesional Sp1 and the problem arise when I change from AC to DC (without reboot it), my speed processor won't change (slower down). I learn when running on DC, it should be change to 700MHZ in order to conserve battery. Vice versa when from DC to AC it should be on its max speed (850 MHZ). With the fact that now XP control the SpeedStep driver
I test it using Intel Processor ID Frequency test (which I download fm Intel's site) in idle state.
Is it true if I upgrade to SP2, it will solve the problem so the speed of processor will change automatically without need to reboot it, depend on source of power ?
And how the power option in XP significantly help to conserve power (especially when running on DC), while seem it only set up for screen / hdd / standyby / hibernate time management... I mean if only I set up all the time parameter same for all mode, is there any effect to conserve the power?
Thank you so much and best regards,
:smileywink:

Dear Molni,
Thx so much for yourkind info.
Now I have upgrade my XP Prof Edition SP1 to SP2, but seem it's not solve my problem.
It still locked on same processor speed when I change from AC to DC and vice versa...
So on AC it will be 850MHZ but soon when disconect from AC and change to DC (without reboot it) and tested with Intel Processor ID Identity, the speed still on 850 MHZ.
Vice versa when change from DC to AC without reboot it, the test show current speed is 700MHZ
I still try to try to resolve the problem... If any C600 user can help me.
For the temperature, Idonthave any trouble with it.....
Okay thanks n brgds,
xhely

i think that the idea with book will be good, but i can compare my laptop before and now, i had an old one MTB, before accident and it worked fine b=without heating problems, so some problem is there, i think now it can be about graphic card overheating or something there because hot is staying there where are memories etc..
and my specification are :
dell c600 384 ram(128+256), 20Gb disk, 700/550MHz
bye
