Latitude D610 Display

Question

I just purchased my latitude D610 SXGA. I guess that makes the native screen resolution 1400 x 1050 (sorry don't know much about computers). Anyway, the computer came preconfigured with the screen resolution set to 120 dpi. The resolution didn't seem obviously bad, but I noticed that there was some wierdness with some of the web pages (regardless of browser being used). Some of the images did not scale well and looked misaligned--more pronounced with netscape.com. Also, some images in my microsoft applications looked a bit blurry, and the words were just too large for the drop boxes in another program I was using. I played around with some settings and finally chose the 96 dpi setting at the native resolution. This fixed the image scaling, word scaling, and blurry figures, but fonts are a bit small for some of my web pages. I noticed that a friend has an earlier latitude D610, and he does not seem to have a problem with his web pages at a dpi of 120 (His computer was configured differently I suppose). Is there some kind of add in, driver, piece of code, etc that resolves the issue of text and image sizing without having to sacrifice resolution?

I have been unhappy with image quality on websites as well. I just found a setting that works. Go to display properties/settings/advanced button. Then the ATI displays tab. Pick the laptop display and uncheck the scale images button. Good luck.

Welcome to the Forum,

Although I have never seen the problem this is supposed to fix and have not ever used it, the Dell Utility
linked below was released to fix the problem you describe.

I had seen the problems you mention with 120dpi and use 96dpi, some things are very small on a WUXGA but
there is so much more to see and the clarity is outstanding, (even if reduced to WXGA).

LINK HERE to try Firefox which does a MUCH better job with font sizing.

Thank you both for the useful tips.  The Dell IE Scaling Utility did the trick.  However, A DPI of 120 still results in some fuzziness.  I am currently working at a DPI of 105 and things seem to be ok.  I also downloaded firefox which is a much nicer web browser.  Will be looking out for future updatesw and the newer issue of XP.

Make sure to update firefox when you first DL. tools/options/advanced/(scroll down) click 'check now' button. ~ Bee
