latitude D610

I have a latitude D610 laptop with an XP Professonal SP3 operating system.  I like to use my big screen tv as amonitor to watch movies from my laptop.  I use the regular monitor cord to hook up my tv.  When the picture comes up on my tv, it's just a little window about 17'' wide x 12" high.  How do I get it to go full screen?  I've tried all of the settings on the tv and nothing works there and it does the same on other tvs.  It has to be some setting on the laptop that I have to change.

Hi maybellineman,

When using an external display there are two factors that affect the size of video on the
display:

  1. Maximum resolution that the laptop's external display output can handle.
  2. Type of displays offered by the monitor/display/TV: If you use a monitor that offers dot-by-dot display, which displays the input resolution as it is, or enlarged display, which maintains the screen's aspect ratio as it is, you will get full video size on the external monitor.

Changing the resolution of the LCD Display might fix the problem. To change the resolution follow the below steps:

1. Right click on the Desktop and select Properties.

2. When the Display Properties window comes up, select the Settings tab.

3. Look for the Screen resolution bar and change it to the desired resolution. Keep in mind that a higher resolution will imply more detail and smoother edges, but the appearance of the desktop may change depending on the type of monitor owned

4. After selecting the desired resolution, click Apply button and expect the resolution to change immediately or after
restarting (if selected).

Please reply if you have any further questions.

Thanks for helping me but I already did that and it didn't help.

Hi maybellineman,

As I posted earlier when using an external display there are two factors that affect the size of video on the display/monitor:

Do check for the above two specifications for your monitor/TV. Also you might find it useful that for your machine (i.e., Latitude™ D610 notebook) maximum resolutions supported by the LCDs are:

1400x1050/18bits (SXGA+)

1024x768/18bits (XGA)

Please revert for clarification.
