Latitude does not power on
Hi,
I have a Latitude E6430 laptop. It was working perfectly until recently, but started to show some issues with powering on.
After being shut down or on sleep mode for a long time (more than 3-4 hours), the laptop won't power on. When the power button is pressed, it lights up, and after few seconds, the LED turns off and does nothing. Not even the Dell screen splash is shown. I've tried removing the battery & AC power and pressing the power button for 30+ seconds and powering on, removing all drives and powering on, swapping RAM modules, and re-attaching the CMOS battery. None of them worked.
Only thing that worked is removing the main battery and AC power for couple of hours and then powering on. Then the laptop will power on and boot and function properly (until it is powered off or put into sleep mode again).
Now, being an old computer, I understand there can be hardware issues. Any suggestions to resolve this issue is welcome. Thank you in advance!

Try removing the battery and using just the adapter alone. If that works, the battery is on its last legs. Leave it out and use the adapter alone until you can replace the computer. It will be a desktop replacement so treat it the same--turn it off properly when not used for long periods and unplug the adapter.

Thanks for the reply Mary G. But I've tried that already (and tried swapping the battery too) and it did not solve the issue.

Hi NWICK,
Are you using an original Dell OEM power adapter?
Does the system overheat? Are there any system crashes / bluescreens?
When you click the restart, does it restart fine? Does it power on / resume from hibernation? The sleep mode you are referring to, is that manual sleep or auto sleep?
Update the BIOS and check if the system works fine.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

I'm using a 90W Dell power adapter.
Laptop does not overheat or experienced any BSOD.
When the laptop is powered on and click restart, it restarts fine. It powers on after sleep mode, manual (as in putting the computer on sleep mode) or auto sleep (as in sleep after a set time), given that powering on is done within a short time after sleeping. The issue can be observed when the computer is powered on after few hours. (I'd say > 6 hours. If it is turned off/ in sleep mode overnight, it does not power on.)
I replaced the CMOS battery, too. It did not solve the problem as well.
I'll try updating the BIOS and see if it makes a difference.
Thank you.

Hi NWICK,
Thank you for the update.
Disable hybrid sleep in power options and check if that resolves the issue.
Also, update the BIOS as suggested and keep us updated.

Hi Rishi,
I've updated the BIOS to the latest version (A21) and it did not change the things. In Windows, hybrid sleep is already disabled.
Thank you for the suggestions.

Hi NWICK,
Thank you for the update.
Do you have a dock connected to the system?
Enable the built in admin account and use the system for a while and let it sleep for long duration and then try resuming the system and check if resumes from both auto / manual sleep.
Also, go to device manager and disable the SD card reader and check.
Test this and keep us updated. Based on your response, I shall research further.
