Latitude e5420 freezes

I have a 4-year old Latitude e5420.  Recently it has begun freezing when I access certain websites, in particular sites I have not visited previously.  When I hard reboot the laptop, I sometimes (not always) get a screen reading "Disk Check.  One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency".  After running this series of checks, the laptop works normally--until the next time it freezes.

One time--last weekend--the laptop started but then the screen went blank.  i was able to restart in Safe Mode, then shut down and restart normally, and no problems after that.

How serious is this?  Is it something that can be analyzed and be repaired?  Or after 4 years, is it time to get a new laptop?

Hi,

Please run a hardware diagnostics to confirm there are no part failure.

To enter diagnostics, Keep tapping F12 on the startup Dell logo that comes as soon you press the power button.

Select "Diagnostics" from the list, Run it completely and let us know if it passes, Else please reply with the Error message and validation code, we shall take it further.

Thanks

Thank you for the response.

I ran the complete diagnostics and "all tests passed".  Also checked defrag and it last ran a month ago; my hard drive is 0% defragmented.  Also ran disk cleanup and deleted about 15 gb, mostly temporary files.

Hi,

Is the laptop still freezing even after clearing 15GB files from it?

Try downloading C Cleaner software and run a cleaner and registry fix.

Also try removing the apps which aren't being used frequently.

Let me know if that helps.

Thanks

Have not yet had a freezing problem since clearing the files.  Will let you know if it recurs--I appreciate your help.

Thanks!
