Latitude E5430 - Problems with fan control

I thank you all for posting,  I wanted to step in here and let all of you know that we are looking into this and see if there are any future BIOS updates planned to provide better fan control.  I will report back here once I research the issue further.

This ist very good to hear. I keep my fingers crossed that you guys are lucky in solving the problem.

Even though I decided to order an E6430 based on this thread, I appreciate Dell-TB for looking into this. Hopefully the issue is fixable via a BIOS update.

Finally, after ten days waiting, my laptop came back, along with the never-stop fan.

Apparently, replacing the fan and motherboard has almost do nothing good to resolve the problem. Thanks to you guys though, Fn+z can temporarily calm it down.

Is there any chance to emulate Fn with a standard cherry keyboard and dockingstation?

As far as I know, there is not easy way to emulate.

Because the key Fn need independent driver programs implemented by manufacturers, and different manufactures have different implementations. If you want other devices to emulate it, you need to call that function in driver, but your cherry keyboard driver probably can't do this, unless it's designed by Dell and has this function.

Also, it's difficult, if possible, to emulate Fn key on the software layer. There are some posts that using assembly language to call the Fn key driver functions. But for the same reason, at least convenient methods like remapping the Fn key, vbs's "sendkey" functions won't work.

I was trying to find a way to press "fn+z" automatically, now I know it's difficult. But even if I can send "Fn+z" to the system, I may still need to connect it to a thermometer programs that judge when should I do this. That's far beyond by my ability.

Okay, thank you for your detailed explanation. Maybe Dell has some software / drivers out there, I will investigate this. But it doesn´t seem to be easy anyways.

I have spoke to engineering regarding the fan noise symptoms and they are requesting information on your systems.  If you are currently noticing symptoms where the fans kick on for seemingly no reason and once kicked in will stay on until the system is rebooted please send me a private message.  If you aren't familiar with sending private messages just click on the link in my signature and then click start conversation.

In the message please include the symptoms that you have noticed, and the service tags of the notebooks.  

Hopefully we can get a new BIOS rev that may give a little more control on the fans.  I appreciate all of your patience and look forward to receiving your messages.

I am experiencing the same issue as well with a couple of E5430s in my environment. Sent a message to TerryB... Hope you guys can provide a fix for this annoying issue.

My system install with a hard drive 7200 RPM.

Regarding the fan issue: Could you please contact DELL-Terry B (see his post from 02-07-2013 9:56 AM (which is above)) including your service tag and the symptoms that you have noticed?

Regarding your speed issue: My system is really fast, and it only has a i3 with 4GB of RAM. Do you have the 5400 RPM hard drive built in? If yes, this may be the cause for the slowness, you could improve it by installing a SSD. Should be really fast then.

replacing the fan and motherboard will not resolve ur issue as done by dell tech support.the issue needs bios fix.

if a out of box laptop has such issue.
