Latitude E5510 black screen..

Hi there,

I have a 6 month old  Latitude E5510. Working absolutely fine until it 'black screened' on me with no warning. Once yesterday, second time today.

It appears to still be running as there is occasional drive activity and no other symptons that would suggest otherwise. Its in a docking station and have taken it out - still no response.  All I can do is to force a shutdown which reboots fine.

There doesn't appear to be anything in the Event log.

Any suggestions as what I could try next to help diagnose the problem would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Jules

Sorry to hear that you are having the problem with the notebook.

If you have an external monitor or LCD I suggest connecting one to the system just to make sure that the problem isn't the LCD going out.  If both screens goes out you know it isn't just the LCD.

Otherwise assuming that this isn't a no video / LCD problem the following link may help.

I certainly suggest running diagnostics on the system.

Report back if you get an error with diagnostics.  Also the diags should not hang or shut down, let me know if they do.

One other thing incase the system is shutting down after a critical error.  Click on start then Control panel and then system.  Click on "Advanced System Settings"  Click the "settings" button under the "Startup and Recovery" section.  Near the bottom of the page uncheck where it reads "Automatically Restart".  If the system is shutting down because of a critical error you should start seeing blue screens now when the problem happens again.  Let us know what kind of error you get if you get one.
