Latitude E7440 Touchscreen not working

I have a Latitude E7440 with a 14' touch screen. It originally came with Windows 7 but I have since upgraded to Windows 8.1. I want to use the touchscreen capabilities but Windows is not recognizing the touch screen.

What can I do?

Hi KevinPHX,

Please perform the steps mentioned below for issue resolution.

Method 1:

Run the troubleshooter. Follow these steps:

a.       Press the ‘Windows + W’ key on the keyboard.

b.      Type troubleshooter in the search box and then press enter.

c.       Click hardware and sound and run the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter.

d.      Follow the On screen instructions.

Method 2:

Follow the mentioned steps to enable Touch tab if it is disabled:

a.       Navigate to Start screen. In the Start screen, click on

b.      Control Panel tile.

c.       In control panel Window, Scroll down and tap on the “More Settings” option.

d.      Old Control Panel window will open.

e.      Next, go to Hardware and Sound and after that click on Pen and

f.        Touch option. Pen and Touch window will open.

g.       Now, in the Pen and Touch window, navigate to Touch tab option. Check whether Use your finger as an input device box is unchecked, if so uncheck it. Then press

h.      Apply and then OK.

Hi KevinPHX,

I would suggest you to update the BIOS. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, then download the BIOS from BIOS section onto the system and install it.

After the BIOS update please follow the method 1 & 2 steps again mentioned in the previous post for issue resolution.

All I can say is welcome to the community of Windows 8.1 users with broken touchscreen functionality and no solutions in sight!
