LCDs Gone WILD!

Hi,

I have a dell8100 inspiron w/ an ATI 7500 video card w/ 64MB of DDR.  Just recently my LCD went crazy... crazy meaning you cannot read anything on the display... you can make out that it booted into windows but the whole screen is distorted.  i tried pluggin it into an external monitor and the display was still all messed up.  I'm pretty sure its the video card, but i could be wrong.  My warrenty is done, so i don't know how much it will cost to fix this.  Hopefully an employee from dell sees this message and can help me out.  Or if any of you guys (or gals) know what to do, any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

You're right - usually, when display problems are duplicated on an external monitor, the video card is to blame. Your best bet is to replace it - you can buy one from Dell (expensive) or ebay, or the link below:

And the manual for your laptop is here:

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins8100/en/sm_en/remove.htm#1051438

That should be the information that you need to replace the card.

Best of luck!

Hey Mark,

I have the same laptop and the same problem... I've narrowed it down to the system board or the video card.  I will test if it is the video card this weekend and i'll let you know.  If it is the video card, you might want to buy a new one.  But if it's the system board, we would both be better off with a new laptop.

I am going to call dell on this issue because i don't think we are alone.

yup i did.  I knew it was you that is why i had christina call you.  What are the odds of us having the exact same problem?  This is diffenately Dell's problem and i'm sure we are not alone.  This probably affects all who have the ATI Radeon 7500 for 2+ years.

So DELL people... if your reading this, make good on our purchase and you'll keep us as returning customers.  pleeease send us new video cards.
