What do u mean by "PBR2"?

your I6000 was out of warranty?

On boot up it only goes as far as the message "pbr2...done" and then locks up.

I have ran the symptom tree and everything passes except IDE disk s/n ... confidence test, it fails.

Any suggestions?

do u test with "extended test"? it s bout 10 or12 hr before it completed.

sound card, parallel port, 1394.

im not sure the problem is but extend would list error under title like
Hardare field or Ram field.

OMG.. I am having the same problem.. almost the same day.. I cant get it to go so safe mode or anything.. I called dell  and the told me that they cant help me unless I pay them 59.00.

I find it very weird that more people are having the same problem on the same time frame and they are out of warrenty.

I took it to a compter Nerd "tech" and he said it passes all diagonostics and will not boot from CD either!

Here,

http://www1.us.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/service_ext_warranty?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

as i know , the problem occurence would happen after 1 hr later by my working exp.

how long time do u leave in your warranty?

good luck..

ok..the answers to your questions

1. Could be a HDD problem (run F12 at dell logo ---> diagnostics and then Custom Test ---> Hard Drive ---> Confidence, Smart, Device sel Test and Read Test). If all passes then

2. Could be a factory image problem. Try loading the image with PC Restore again (CTRL + F11 at dell logo) If doesnt work then you will have to reinstall windows by CD.

Regards.

Did you try restarting the restore process again?

It wouldnt restart the restore. Dell sent a replacement hard drive. Looks like its okay so far.
