Logitech Cordless Desktop MX for Bluetooth
I will be buying an Inspirion 8600 laptop this summer for college, and I'm looking into the Bluetooth technology.
I was already interested in Logitech's Cordless MX mouse/keyboard duo, and I found the same setup, except that it's a Bluetooth version.
According to the Logitech's MX description, the mouse recharger doubles as a Bluetooth hub, and is "All you need to put your Bluetooth devices to work for you right now, right at your desktop."
I will be getting a bluetooth card in my laptop (as I understand it is necessary to connect to wireless devices), but in all of the Bluetooth information I have read, I found no mention of the need for a hub, other than the internal card.
At the same time, Logitech's website mentions nothing about the need for an internal card, just the hub.
I've read that the internal Bluetooth card recognizes the MX mouse, but treats it as a standard non-programmable mouse, and that without the hub, it's not worth purchasing.
Now, from what I understand so far, I see no advantage in paying the extra money for the Bluetooth-enabled MX duo, since the hub seems worthless with a Bluetooth card inside my laptop.
Am I just completely wrong, or is Logitech just trying to create their own wireless standard?

If you install the drivers for the mouse, you should be able to use the advanced features of the mouse even with the internal bluetooth card. If I'm not mistaken however, the logitech Bluetooth mouse uses the Included hub as a recharger for the mouse as well, so practically speaking you would have to have it connected anyways.

Well, I would think that it would work also, but I remember reading complaints that the drivers only worked in conjunction with the supplied hub.
It also occurred to me that even if I didn't NEED the hub, I would want it for the mouse charger anyway.
So would it be smart to get the regular version without Bluetooth, and use the hub, and use my internal card for all Bluetooth devices?

Sounds like a plan. Why pay for another Bluetooth adapter when you already have one. The Bluetooth combo would make sense for someone who wants to add bluetooth capability to their system, but so much so for someone who already has it.
