Logitech Mouseware makes Synaptic slow... Help!

Question

Greetings! Just installed a logitech Wheel Mouse with their mouseware, latest version. I've got a new Inspiron 1100, with the latest drivers from the site loaded in Windows 2000 Pro. Everything's working great with the two devices, BUT suddenly the Synaptic device is really slow when I try to move my pointer anywhere. The Mouseware gives me a Synaptic tab, but I don't see pointer speed as an option. I can control the Logitech's speed, or course! Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Regards,

The pointer speed for the Logitech mouse should be "linked" to the touchpad speed (like a universal input device speed setting). If you slide the setting over to high speed, the touchpad should speed up, but the mouse will speed up as well. Unfortuneately, I have not found a way to separate the settings so that I can have the touchpad work at one speed and the mouse at another.

I guess that's in theory... it doesn't speed up in any noticable was for the Synaptic device but does for the mouse. I suppose I'll try reinstalling both drivers to see if that solves it. First things first. I was just wondering if there was a known issue.

Thats the way it works on my system, however I didn't bother installing the mouse control software, only the driver itself, this allows the Synaptics software to be the "Boss" of the external mouse as the synaptics software does have settings that apply to aftermarket external mice.

Hi: Ok, makes sense. Get rid of Logitech's mouseware and just install the driver. I'll give that a shot. I mostly use Synaptics, but for serious mousing an external mouse is pretty much essential. Thanx.

Just to follow up. I uninstalled the Logitech Mouseware junk and everything's working fine now. It doesn't need that software to run anyhow. Works fine with just the Synaptic driver, that is, both the external and the Synaptic mouse work fine without any logitech junk on their. Regards,

Well, the 'Mouseware junk' is actually one of the better behaving mouse drivers that are Synaptics-aware and do not try to take over the touchpad completely assuming that the external mouse is connected to the USB-port. The trick to access touchpad speed setting and few other Synaptics-specific settings is to boot the computer without the external mouse and the appropriate settings for the touchpad are visible again in mouse settings and can be changed. When the computer is booted with the external mouse, those settings will be retained for the touchpad, but they are not visible in the mouse control panel.

Bearw! Thanx for the tip. That worked out. I've now got them both getting along. I guess if I have to switch settings around, at least speed and acceleration, I'll just reboot without the external mouse plugged in. Thanx for the tip. I'm not sure that it makes much of a difference whether the driver loads, though the Logitech mouse does seem to permit higher motion speeds with its driver loaded.
