LogonUI.exe -- Bad Image Error

Hi, I'm looking for some insight, so I hope someone can help me. I've had my XPS 1710 for maybe a month and a half and I haven't had any problems with it until last night. The Windows Update screen popped up, I clicked okay to download the updates and then it told me to restart my computer. I restarted after a few minutes, as I was in the middle of doing something and when it started booting up the following error popped up:

-------

LogonUI.exe -- Bad Image

C:\\Windows\systems32\MSIM632.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installment media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.

-------

When I click okay on the error msg, it brings me to a completely black screen where I can still move my mouse. It's like something is preventing me from getting to entering my password, so I can access my laptop. I already called XPS support, he had me run diagnostics and try a few other things and that didn't show any errors, so he told me I would have to do a systems restore. I'm hoping someone knows of a way to fix this, because I've only had it for not even two months and to have to do a systems restore already is ridiculous to me. I have most of my stuff on an external HD, but not all of it.

I would really appreciate any insight/help, if you have it. Thanks in advance! Oh and I'm running Vista Home Edition, if that matters.

Are you able to log into safe mode?

No, I wasn't able to login into safe mode either. I tried doing the systems restore to the beginning of June with no such luck, as the error still appeared. I ended up having to wipe the hard drive and completely reinstall the Vista OS. Thankfully, I have everything up and running again, but I still have no idea what caused this :-| Thanks for the reply though!

I too have received the logonui.exe problem but the file I am having issue with is avrt.dll.  The Audio Service will now not run.  I am currently backing all the music and other files off, but is there not a way to just update the file?  I am also trying to re-install the audio drivers.  I would love some answer other that "Start over".
Thanks in advance!!
