m1530 USB2.0

Question

Hi all

whenever i connect my USB2 hub to any of the usb ports on my xps1530 vista pops up to tell me that it would perform better if I connected it to a USB2 controller. It tells me the names of the usb2 controllers and I can see in the device manger that they appear to be installed correctly. So how to I get my USB device to connect to them?

I am using Vista Home Premium 32bit.

Thanks for the response, the hub is powered, and I haved just tried a new cable which made no difference. Before I chuck the hub and get a new one I just want to make sure that it isn't some kind of driver problem.

In the device manager there is:

All appear to be installed fine and when I uninstall them vista instantly reinstalls them exactly the same. Does this all seem correct and is it most likely a rubbish hub?

Be sure the hub is externally powered. If it isn't, it isn't getting enough power, which can result in the error you're seeing. If it is, try a new USB 2.0 cable, and if that doesn't work, a new hub.

yeah its definitely a usb2 hub, it is made by advent, so probably should have seen this coming, connecting devices direct to the laptop seems to be ok or at least it doesn't pop up telling me that it isn't connected to usb2 anyway. New hub it is then.

Yes, that looks correct.  Are you sure it's a USB 2.0 hub, and have you tried other USB 2.0 devices directly?
