M4300 Audio
Hello!
I just bought a Dell M4300. It came with Windows Vista, but I needed to install XP (so that some of editing programs work).
Everything works fine except my audio card. It doesn't work at all. I tried to install the drivers found on the support page, but they don't work (while installing they say that they are not for my hardware configuration or something like that).
I looked in my DEVICE MANAGER. At the Sound section everything looks ok (no question marks). There are question marks at a "USB device" and "PCI device".
Then I checked the Sounds and Audio Device Properties in Control Panel... it says "NO AUDIO DEVICE"...
How can I solve this problem?

After you have performed an Operating System re-installation, install the audio driver following this order of installation:
a. Install Dell Notebook System Software (click the + sign next to System Utilities). Restart.
b. Next install the Intel Mobile Chipset driver (click the + sign next to Chipset). Restart.
c. Finally re-install the Sigmatel audio driver (click the + sign next to Audio).
Get these from M4300 XP drivers
Rarely there will still be a problem with the installation at this point (in XP). In those cases follow this tip from forum member rpilT2005: check in the Device Manager for a "PCI Device" with a yellow question mark next to it, under the "System Devices" grouping. Hit 'update driver' on that one, and it should find the driver.
If the driver still won't install try using safe mode.

It worked.
I looked in my Device Manager...the sound controll its ok.
The only question mark I have left is at a "Other Device" category, with one more question and exclamation mark at his subcategory, "USB device".
Do you think I should post my problem at the General Hardware section of the forum?

That a good idea to post in the Hardware forum. I don't know what the device is unless there is something like a mouse connected to a usb port.
