M5010 Shuts down

Hello all,

I need some help badly, I purchased a refurbished Inspiron M5010 for my son 13 months ago. Of course the warranty ran out in december. It has developed a problem and will just shut down. try to restart it and it will shut down again, wait a few minutes and it will restart. This is what I have come up with trying to diagnose the issue.

It seems to run fine if you want to surf the internet, watch you tube, play dvd's can do this for hours. But if you try to play a game, it will last only a few minutes before it just shuts off. Since it arrived new the left side of the laptop (left of the touchpad) has always been hot when it is running. I bought a cooling pad to use with it to try and keep it cool.

Any help would be appreciated, I feel bad for him we split the cost 50/50 and at for a 13 year old half was a lot of money to come up with.
