Media Buttons backlight not working

Just realised my Inspiron 9300 should have blue backlight on the media buttons after getting a 6000 model. Has anyone had this issue with the backlight not working on any key?
 
Is it a LED array that lights up? Looks like I may have to do surgery on it and take a peek inside.
 
The buttons function OK, just hard to read of course. Otherwise machine is working OK.
 
Problem is I have no warranty as it was a faulty PC that had a dead DVD+-RW drive. Minor nuisance though.

Hm they should only light up if you press one, otherwise not. If they don't come on at all, I believe the LED array is included with the palmrest. Replacing that is rather easy, if you can find the part sold somewhere.
