Media Key Volume Increments
Is there a way to change how much the sound volume is raised
or lowered with each key press?
I have a Dell Inspiron 17R SE. It has a dual boot set up with
Windows 7 and Windows 8. The sound driver is IDT High Definition Audio Codec,
the latest update, and identical in both operating systems. The media keys on
the keyboard that change the volume (Fn-F11, Fn-F12) raise or lower it by 2
steps (percentage) in Windows 8 and by 4 steps in Windows 7 with each key
press. What sets this, and is there a way to change it? I would like it to be 2
steps in Windows 7 as well. I have Windows 7 on a different Dell (Inspiron
1545) where it is 2 steps.

Hello Ssparler,
Operating System controls the graphical interface of the volume indicator. An option to change this is unavailable.

Thanks, but leaving Windows 8 out the picture for a moment, why is Windows 7 at 4 steps on one machine and 2 steps on another?

Hello Ssparler,
As per the update from the product research group, the settings for the volume bar is decided by the Operating System. Even if two different system running windows 7, they might have different settings for the volume bar. It is because the driver settings are different on both the system models. We do not have any option to make changes on those settings.
