Microphone 'Default Off' Registry Key?
I have a program that keeps continuing to mute my microphone periodically. (This program is known to have problems with multiple soundcards, and I'm not sure if my internal microphone and microphone port count as 'two soundcards').
I also remember when I first got my computer and when I reinstall Windows and whatever, that the microphone defaults to off. (To enable it, on ME, I go into volume control panel, switch to recording, and put a checkmark in the 'Select' box.
I'm wondering if these two things are related...if there's a registry key somewhere that says 'microphone defaults to off'...and this program is reading this key for some strange reason and resetting the microphone to it's default setting--off. The microphone also doesn't seem to work inside this game (although it works everywhere else) and I'm hoping this issue might resolve it, but at the very least if it fixes the problem where it keeps turning the mic off, that'd be great.
So, is there like any registry settings I could change to set the microphone to default on?

I believe the registry settings are:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0005\Settings - DisableMicFromPlayback 01 (Set this to 00)
This should allow the microphone to function inside the game, may have feeback problems if using the PC speakers.
DisableMICSelect 01 (Set this to 00) May default Mic to default to on?
I have not tried these yet so you may want to back up the registry.
Post back if this helps or not.

I'm sorry, Pine, but I could not find the keys you were referring to.
Again, my laptop is an Inspiron 8100, and the operating system is ME.
The 'Class' folder wasn't there, however I tried 'DeviceClasses', in which the 4d36e folder wasn't there.
I also searched using regedit for 'disablemic'...and it found nothing.
In an update to the issue, the mic now works in the game as long as I alt-tab out and continue to turn it back on every time the game turns it off.
