misbehaving apostophe key
I've done something to the apostrophe key on the keyboard of my XPS14. Instead of getting an apostrophe when I press the key, nothing happens ... until I press another key. For example if I go to write the word couldn't I hit;
couldn and get exactly that
then I hit the apostrophe key and get nothing
then I type the t and suddenly the apostrophe appears and the t!
It's got me stumped. It apppears I have to hit another key before the apostrophe will appear. Even if it's another apostrophe ... I just get '' then!
The same thing happens if I want quotes (shift+apostophe key) ... I get nothing until i hit another key then they appear! It's doing my head in .. .can anyone help me on this? Is it some sort of regional language setting or something? Should I somehow reinstall the keyboard driver?
Any help would be apppreciated.

What happens if you use the on-screen keyboard (found under all programs/accessories/ease of access in win 7)?

The only thing I could think of is to check in control panel>region & language>keyboard & languages and see if you keyboard is set to the correct region.

Anyway it does exactly the same thing. It's totally weird .. .I've obviously hit something somewhere but buggered if I know what?

Yeah that was the first thing I did ... no joy.
Do you know if there is a way to 'reinstall' the keyboard driver?

I had the same problem.
The way to resolve it (atleast what worked for me) is that you have to select the right keyboard.
See where the language bar is (mine is next to the system tray - bottom right side) press the keyboard button next to EN and you should get 2 options:
"US" and "US-international". Select "US" and you should type as normal. "US-international" when selected causes this problem.

No problem. It is a very weird issue, and I remember how I was dreading on the taught of having to explain it to the customer service people :D
Can I ask you something, if you may, what is the temperature of your laptop and graphics card on normal load (doing normal things like surfing and not gaming)? I have a feeling mine is much more than it should be. It's OK if you don't

mate I'm not sure about my graphics card (wouldn't know where it is!) but my laptop certainly runs hot compared to anything else I've owned. It came up in my research but I guess I discounted how important it is. Having now owned the machine for a few months there has certainly been times where it's less than ideal. On the plus side our cat likes to sit to the left of my machine on cold days!
