Motherboard failure - really?

I bought a Dell Inspiron M5030 a year and a half ago and the motherboard has already failed.  The half-year part means it's out of warranty of course.  Really? only a year and a half on the motherboard dies?  Flip it on and it gives the 7 beeps and nothing else.  I'd be more understanding if it were the hard drive or something else but motherboard failure after such a short time means there's a serious quality issue here.  I've bought many Dell machines over the years - desktops and laptops and they've all had a good, normal lifespan with the hard drives eventually going.  Never a motherboard failure.  $400 and Dell will fix it.  Yeah, right.  I'll buy a new one before I plunk down that much change.  When I do, I guarantee if WON'T be a Dell!!  Two words Dell:  Quality Control.  Defective motherboards that aren't replaced won't earn you repeat customers.

Final update - Dell did come through on this and replaced the defective motherboard.  Thanks Harish and Dell for taking care of this!

Update on this.  Thanks Dell for stepping in to resolve this even though it's technically past the warranty!  It has restored my faith (and business) in your company.

You were very blessed to receive the help you received.  I have the exact same issue and the warranty ran out on my M5030 in July. Dell just told me that's just the wait happens sometimes. Next laptop is gonna be a wal mart special.

Having the same issues with mine. They want to charge me almost  $400 to fix it. Did not get the help I was looking for. Shame on Dell.

Lucky you for having at a year and a half. Mine was less than a month and its all black screen. The store where I bought it said its the motherboard. After 4 days they called me up and said that it's fixed. They replaced the motherboard and the screen. The laptop itself should have been replaced I think. Tsk I had to accept the fact that Dell is not that reliable :(
