Mouse Cursor sliding off the screen
I am not sure of the exact terminology, however, whether i use the touch pad or ported mouse, the cursor/pointing device on my Inspirion 8200 slides off the screen either to the top right or the bottom left corners. It does it about 95 percent of the time. When it doesn't do it, it is fine the computer functions as it is supposed to except that 95 percent is almost all the time. I have tried reinstalling the touch pad drivers and the mouse drivers. Please help! Trying to avoid reformatting

Hi,
Try it with no external mouse, and if you have the latest pointer drivers, you can disable the touch-stick and pad one at a time to find the fault.

Barb,
If you load the latest driver, you should be able disable the touch-pad and stick, one at a time. Failing that, disconnect the internal keyboard. Use an external one. The reason to do this, is to disconnect the touchstick, a common cause of a wandering pointer. Make sure you fit the disconnected keyboard back, as it may be pressue from it twisting the case and touchpad. Most probems are caused by the touchstick, but in your model range I have seen a few with the touchpad the cause. Also, see if a tap on top of the touchstick does anything ( with the KBD connected of course ) it may make it better, or worse but any change will help point to the cause.

where do i get the pointer drivers?

i have had no luck as of yet, and your statement that you reformatted is very disheartening. I will keep you posted. I would like to know what you decided to do, with regard to your lap top? Buy a new one?

Hi,
You can find downloads from the notebook tab above. It has to be fixable, and there are other temp fixes you can try. You can set the Bios to serial pointer and use an external mouse. Worst case disable the internal pointers and use an external mouse. This will get you going while you decide what to do.

Yes, I ended up buying a new PC, I'd still like to use the Inspiron. I had to go out of town for a week but I plan on trying Chris' suggestions when I return home the first of Feb.
