Mouse/touchpad not working

I have a Dell Latitude CPx-J laptop whose touchpad and mouse pointer is no longer working. The OS is Windows XP Professional and all the latest critical updates are loaded. I have also installed the latest Alps Dual Pointing Device software.

Any suggestions on how I can get the these devices working again?

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Since Dell did not install Windows XP on the Latitude CPx J, I suggest that you use the Windows Update utility to obtain the drivers that you need.

i began having the same problem, with win2k. i checked operation after the initial install of the os. everything worked fine, mouse and touchpad, even before i loaded the dell drivers. the mouse and touchpad stopped working at some point during the windows update process. i am going to redo the install step by step to isolate the problem update.
