Need help connecting to switch

Have a Studio 1535. Trying to use laptop with a PS2 switch. Have a Y converter from PS2 to USB. On Windows Vista Premium. How do I get laptop to recognize PS2 mouse/keyboard?

A lot of times those USB-PS/2 converters don't work. You'll have to buy their USB counterparts.
