no power up light
Just opened box of brand new computer today and power LED light button does NOT come on although the computer turns on. Also there is a light on the connector box on the floor (so know it is getting power), but there is also NO light on the side of computer where power cord is plugged in (in addition to no LED light on power on/off button.
Can't remove battery and hold power button down as Dell now INTEGRATES batteries (which I would have NEVER ordered had they disclosed this - Toshiba does this too but HP still doesn't integrate their batteries btw).
Anyway Dell support said to take it back to Costco because a repair would take up to 15 days... just can't believe there is not an EZ Fix for this glitch???
NEVER bought any electronic that didn't have a power light come on (unless of course it wouldn't turn on).
If anyone has a solution plmk - many thanks in advance. :)

Okay... got an answer from Dell.
1) This is a "first" for me - there's NO power LED light indicator on power on/off button :(
However, the solid horizontal sliver of a light on front left corner is only "on" is if power cord is plugged in, intermittent flashing light -just to the right of this- means computer is getting power from either battery alone or power cord. So think I can adjust even tho I really want a powered light-up button. I miss having the convenience of seeing it light up so I immediately know to quit holding it down...kinda like how I miss WIN 7 - just prefer to keep it simple.
2) Battery IS replaceable BUT was told because it is UNDER the back cover have to change it with a Dell support person guiding me over the phone (prob have to use THEIR battery too) so as to not void 2nd yr warranty that Costco includes for other hardware (but battery warranty is only good for 1 year from Dell - no extended battery warranty from Costco in year two of their 2-year warranty for computers - so why that would void the 2nd year warranty with Costco doesn't quite add up). Anyway - just wanted to avoid having to send it to Dell for battery replacement as Costco folks thought I would - which would not be feasible. Other alternative was told is if it lasts as long as 2nd year then just plug it in all the time :(
3) Costco gal told me how she upgrades all her computers with SSD cards and how super fast they are. So I ask about that and was told that upgrading to a SSD card voids warranty. Even if a reputable tech does it btw - so if I keep it am stuck with computer "as is", although the AMD10 is pretty darn amazing - think I prefer it actually over Intel I5 as I multi-task a lot - so I can live w/out one as am not a gamer. Plus SSD can limit storage capacity.
Also - understand that some of these hard discs are being attached/soldered to the motherboard - Dell person said could not do SSD upgrade anyway on newer Dell Inspirion 5000 Series??? Maybe it has something to do with that buried battery (for slimmer look he said). So just to give heads-up if you need one of these SSD's might want to make sure you can install one first - per warranty AND model.
