No video
I have an inspiron 15 7000 series, that powers on but will display no video. The monitor backlight comes on and funny thing is that connecting an external monitor works and I can use the touch display on the laptop screen to move the mouse on the external monitor. So do I have a bad lcd display if the backlight and touchscreen components work or is it another issue?

Power off, press and hold the D key though powerup. Can you see a series of cycling colors on the internal screen?

Interesting, so I did hold down the D key and I do see the cycling colors on the monitor.
Booting normally I still do not see any video. Not Dell logo, no POST of any kind.

That means the display is OK. The prime suspect would be the wiring harness that runs between the mainboard and back of the display panel -- that would be next to replace.
If that doesn't solve the problem, it's likely a video chip failure (they can and often do fail in such a way as an external monitor functions properly while the internal display does not).
