I thought that the included video link in my previous post would give you some guidance.
I assume you still have the original Dell configuration
1.reboot your system and press the function key "F12".
2.select Diagnostics from the Boot menu and hit "Enter"
3.choose "Test system" (use the arrow keys,as the mouse/touchpad doesn't work at that stage)
4.choose "custom test" (you can now use touchpad/mouse )
5.choose the keyboard section. One of the entries gives you a graphical layout of the keyboard that
let you test each single key........

Ok better luck this time i get the options post the preboot assesment. I allows to do the check as requested by you..but in error instead of selecting keyboard i did the test which shows under common problems and then the keyboard. It gave me a key board and said to presss the highlighted key. when i did that the fist key highlighted that i was required to press was the ESC key and come what may how hard i bang at the key I could not get any response ..there were no errors too for me to write down..so i had to press the power butten for 1 minute to hard boot out of place as i got stuck there..anyways I am now going to try your way and lets see how that goes but if the diagnostics asks me to press the esc key even if i press it there is no response i dont know what to do...Please can you advice?????

ok ran the diagnostic as you said to run it but got stuck and had to hardboot my way out of it as the escape key would not work in the stuck key test. The fist key highlighted that i was required to press in the stuck key test was the ESC key and come what may how hard i bang at the key I could not get any response ..there were no errors too for me to write down..so i had to press the power butten for 1 minute to hard boot out of place as i got stuck there. Basically the same situation as faced in the above note...any suggestions???? What do i do now.. with the stuck key test issue

Hi Bugg5555,
Welcome to the Community. It looks like a Keyboard failure, you can try reseating the keyboard, if that does not work then you will need to have the keyboard replaced.
<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>
Thank you

I agree with Dell-Royan - I couldn't respond earlier as I am here in Europe.

You wrote that you did not see the included video in one of my previous posts - is this still true or did you just miss it?

The fact is that your keyboard failed the diagnostic test and this test is completely independent from windows.
I'll give you another video link - I modified the link to make sure you don't miss it.Should you try to reseat the cable be careful with the connector - there are 2 tiny sliders you have to lift before you can pull the cable out

MicroTest and Dell-Royan first a big thanks for your ongoing responses. I had called and spoken to the Dell tele support people.. They said they would charg to fix the single key. Basically they want me to buy the one year support warrenty which is like 143GBP and they say we will fix anything that is the issue for one year be it the key or something else..... Makes no sense to me.I think the amount is on the higher side but they said since my laptop is currently out of warrenty.. I just want the escape key fixed also is there no such thing as a service support or something which i could take on the lesser side just for getting this key repaired or do i have to buy the one year warrenty....maybe all that it needs a little servicing and things might start working.... I seriously think the charges are on the higher side. So will try some local vendors/technicians lets see..In the meantime any update on the above 2 points/posts of language change for a Vista or photoabode being the issue how do i check it?

No I did not miss it. I cant actually see it. Its came like a blank piece over there....How do i reseat the keyboard...?Also i saw some forum mention it could be the language setting option.or it could be something to do with the photoabode. I am not sure on the photoabode thing though?. I do remember fiddling with the language option a couple of months back..could be due to it...what is the default option that should be in the language setting for a Dell computer bought by me in India
