Possible dead battery in 600m?
I tried searching the forum, but didn't find anyone else with the same exact problem I'm having:
When I use my 600m on battery power, I have a modular driver battery that discharges first, and then swtiches over to my primary battery. The problem happened in the past week, where I thought my primary battery was fully charged, but when the secondary battery was drained, the laptop completely shut off, instead of switching over to the primary power. When I plugged in the AC adaptor (I just bought a new one in the last month), a message came up when booting up that's come up before, saying 'The AC adaptor type cannot be determined. This will prevent optimal system performance.'So I hit F1 to boot up as normal.
When Windows loaded, the power indicator in the task bar said the secondary battery was charging, but the primary battery was at 0% with a red X through it. When the computer is either off or on, the battery light above the keyboard (2nd led from right) blinks amber 4 times, and green once. When the primary battery is still plugged into the computer, the secondary battery will not charge. When I take the primary battery out, the secondary will charge, and the computer will still turn on and work as normal. When I push indicator the button on the primary battery, the 1st, 3rd, and 5th led's will blink 4 times.
Is this a sure sign that the primary battery is dead, and that I'll have to shell out the $180 for a new battery? I've had this laptop and batteries since June 2003, so these are going to be out of warranty right?
It just seems weird that this happened suddenly, because I haven't noticed my battery life decrease at all, and when I do use the batteries, I usually just use my laptop long enough to where the secondary battery discharges and hardly have any of the primary battery get used. I just thought about this because I saw the recharge cycles for 600m batteries to be 300 discharge/charge cycles (which seems pretty low...) and the fact that I've drained and recharged my secondary battery A LOT more than the main battery...
Sorry for the long post, I just hope the description helps someone else out, and determining if I have to spend the $180 yet or not.
Thanks for any replies.

The main question is still, those 1, 3, and 5 led's on the battery that blink 4 times, is that a sure code that the battery is dead and needs to be replaced? Or can the blinking mean more than just that?
