Power Issues With Inspiron 9300

Hi there folks wondering if anyone can halp me with a little problem im having with my laptop. As i said its an inspiron 9300. A couple of months ago my battery lost all charge, so i bought a new one. Then a couple weeks later my charger went on the blink, it would power the system but not charge the battery(a message saying - "The AC power adapter type cannot be determind. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 90W AC adapter or higher for best system performance.") so i bought a new adapter. That worked fine until yesterday when whilst it was connected to my laptop started making a buzzing noise. The noise sounds like its coming from around the charge socket on my laptop and only occurs when it is actually connected. I reconnected my old charger and that works same as i described before but with no noise. Is this a problem with the newer charger or the power socket on my laptop? Any help is appreciated. Also another quick question, my touch pad sometimes becomes very unresponsive and laggy, ive uninstalled it and reinstalled it and that worked, but everynow and again it does the same thing. Again any suggestions or help is appreciated. Rosco

I am having a very similar problem with my Inspiron 9300. It seems that either the adapter is not charging the battery or the battery is not holding the charge. The connection between the charger and the laptop is very finicky...the cord needs to be repositioned several times before it seems to make a solid connection. Any help would be great.....

I am having the same problem with my 9300. Does anyone know if there's a solution to this problem? My laptop is not under warranty anymore.

Hi lovemuppet, I have had to buy a brand new charger and brand new battery to get it working again. I think the problem is the battery being over charged. Its a process that happens to all Li-ion batteries over time. It just seems to happen a bit sooner on laptops(it happend on my friends iBook, so its not just dell). You can pick new batteries up on ebay alot cheaper than you can in the dell shop, http://www.tradingrepublik.com/ is the ebay shop i used to buy mine and they were very helpful. Hope this helps, reply if you have any more questions. Rosco

If you battery has some charge and the laptop doesnt go off as soon as you take the power chord out or it loses its connection then your battery is fine. I would probably have to agree with the loose power chord port. Though in the end i didnt have that problem with mine, mine was sorted with a new battery and charger. I suggest you try and find a forum that deals with a possible motherboard power fault. I have no experience in that department. Sorry i couldnt help you any more.

I've already bought a new power cord. I've been reading that it's possibly a loose power port? It will still charge for a few minutes at time, if I position the cord right. Do you think it is still the battery itself?

Hi rosco,
Although I don't have the exact same computer as you, when I got my laptop for the very first time last year, the AC adapter, which was supposed to be brand new kept on overheating excessively. When I called Tech support, they told me that it's faulty and therefore should be replaced. Also, I had the problem with connecting the brick with the cord portion of the AC adapter. The cord was so tight that it just didn't fit. So the point that I'm trying to make here is that you should request a replacement for your new adapter. As for the noise that you're having, did you buy the exact same type of AC adapter as your old one, meaning, every spec is the same as the previous one? If not, there may be a glitch or a mismatch with the BIOS codes.

From my experience, I think there is a connection between AC adapters, battery and the BIOS codes. When I updated my BIOS code, I started hearing high pitched buzzing sounds even with just the AC adapter alone being used. Prior to the update, I was only hearing sounds with just the battery.
