pr01x Port Replicator Audio issue with D820

Hi,

! have a Dell Latitude D820 Win XP SP2 docked on to a pr01x docking station. When the laptop is docked and I plug in external speakers into the docking station (pr01x) the sound doesn’t come out of the external speakers but through the laptop itself. When I undock the Laptop and plug the external speakers into the laptop the external speakers work.

So it isn’t the speakers, do you guys have any suggestions? The Audio driver is SigmaTel STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio 5.10.0.4664

mr coker,

With the system docked, go to Control Panel, System, Hardware, Hardware Profiles.  Highlight the docked profile and click on Properties.  There you will find a checkbox that says "This is a portable computer".  When you check that, you get 3 radio buttons underneath it.  You should be able to get sound using either "The computer is docked" or "The docking state is unknown".  Also make sure that the setting for using the APR speaker is checked as well.  It is accessed by double-clicking the volume icon in the lower right-hand tray, click on the 'options' menu in the Master Volume window and click on 'Advanced Controls'. An 'advanced' button will appear near the bottom left corner, click on it.  Near the bottom of the next window that opens is a check box stating 'Use Docking Speaker'.

Hi,

I have the same problem but on a Dell D630 running Vista business.

I can't get any sound out of the external speakers after docking. Is there a similar workaround?

Thanks very much..

Have a similar issue on a d430 latitude. no sound when the audio jack is plugged into the pr01x audio port. tried replacing the speaker on the dell 1908wfp monitor and tried replacing the docking station after assuming that it was a bad audio port on the docking station. sound comes from the laptop speakers no matter what. plugging directly into the laptop sends sound to the monitor speaker though. Can't find hardware profiles in Vista that are mentioned for xp in this thread!
